A Fairytale

There was once a princess, in a far away land. While she may  not have been the prettiest of them all, or the wittiest of them all, she was the happiest of them all. Her mind was full of happy thoughts and big ideas on life.
Little did she know that while she was a princess in her own castle, she was nothing but a regular child in the outside world. She was not aware of how her little kingdom was in danger of being shattered. And shatter it did, not once not twice but many many times.
Over time, the princess began to realize her ideas of life and love and happiness were nothing but a sham built in her mind. Every time her world shattered, it hurt a little more, and bit in a little deep. However, she never stopped believing, never stopped believing that it would always be alright.
She loved with all her heart, and soul. While many deemed her crazy for doing so in the bad bad world they lived in. she never really admitted defeat. She fell, once, twice, many many times. Infact the scars were aplenty, or should we say badges of war. While some filled up and left scabs, the others would tear open and bleed afresh.
The latest in the long time of scars was a deep one. There was no rhyme or reason to this fall, except her self respect. While she might be blinded by love and her devotion, nothing came in the way of her self respect. While she might be willing to give it up multiple times to make it work, she wouldn’t forget that she was a princess after all.
The walls around her heart grew tougher each time. And this recent one, was a doozy alright. At nights she would cry and hurt and cuss. While in the mornings she would get up and smile and laugh her heart out. It was a cycle which kept chipping away at her slowly and gradually. Each night she would question, when the pain would stop, when it would all be worthwhile. With no answer to her questions, she would sob herself to sleep.
To wake up yet again to do the merry dance all day long. Her castle would wobble and shake with each fall she faced. She would get up and say its alright, we will be ok. But then came a day when she broke away, told herself it wasn’t worth the pain. Slowly she tried to become ice, however the sun would melt her everyday.
She would look up, she would look down, and sideways she would glance. However, no respite could she find in the walls she built. All she wanted was someone to share her castle with, promising to cherish no matter the faults within. Her lover would ensure the cracks would fill up, did she not fill the cracks of her castle yet again.
A simple question with no answer, when would the pain she faced end again.
